Adult Religious Education

About Us

Our Adult Religious Education (ARE) Committee plans and presents courses and events that promote the spiritual life of its participants, increase their knowledge of their own faith and other religions, bring together members and friends of the congregation and people from the wider community, and support and pass on the traditions of King's Chapel. All are welcome.

The core program is a series of courses conducted by our ministers and others. The committee also organizes one-time events and an annual Retreat. The rest of the activities depend on the initiative of those who propose them and those who help make them happen

Calendar 2011-2012

October and November

A course on Contemplative Living meets for eight sessions on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 pm in our Parish House to reflect on spiritual writings and our own lives in order to deepen our relationships and religious understanding and practices.

Beginning in November…

A series of films take place monthly at 7 pm in our Parish House. The premier feature will be “Tender Mercies” on Thursday, November 17. Discussion afterwards and popcorn will be served, of course. Watch for future films.

January 13th-15th

Our annual Retreat will take place on Martin Luther King. Jr. Weekend, January 13-15 at the Glastonbury Abbey, a Benedictine abbey, in Hingham, MA. It is located about 17 miles south east of Boston. The Retreat allows time for a thoughtful program for our members and friends. The site provides a quiet prayerful setting, secure lodging and healthy meals.

February and March

Ash Wednesday takes place on February 22 and Easter on April 8. Lenten Bible Study will be led this year at the Parish House by Kristin Grassel Schmidt, Assistant Minister.

Spring

A Stain Glass Workshop will be led by professional artist and long-time parishioner, Emanuel Genovese, at the Parish House. Emanuel also teaches our children and youth on Sundays in our Church School
