Social Action Committee

ROLE STATEMENT

The mission of the Social Action Committee is to serve the broader community (beyond King’s Chapel) through various activities, primarily addressing urban poverty and homelessness. While we emphasize local action, with small but meaningful impact, we seek also to participate in wider social justice advocacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Social Action Committee publicizes its activities in the monthly King’s Chapel newsletter; reports to Parish Council, the Wardens, Vestry, and Ministers where appropriate; submits a written report at the King’s Chapel Annual Meeting; administers its budget in accordance with established church procedures; proposes a minimal budget annually to the Fiscal Affairs Committee; recruits committee members and others to participate in various projects; and submits new member names to the Nominating Committee.

GOALS

  • Build congregation-wide social justice programs through education, service, strategic fund distribution, and systemic change
  • Increase the visibility of our social action work and its accomplishments
  • Create and expand our social justice identity within the Greater Boston Metropolitan area
  • Build partnerships with people and groups working for our shared values and principles in the wider community, including:
