Habitat For Humanity Greater Boston: Emergency Funds Needed

5/20/2020

Hello,

Like me, I'm sure your inbox has been flooded with emails about COVID-19. That's why I'm sending this emergency message one more time.

Thank you in advance for your support during this crisis,
Jim

P.S. If you've already responded to our urgent need, please accept my deep gratitude for your generosity and encouragement. It means so much, especially now.

Dear friend,

This is the most important letter I have ever written.

Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston is facing a crisis no one saw coming.

The coronavirus is having an unimaginable impact on our ability to raise funds and build homes for families...
  • Loss of $375,000 in event revenue: The need to cancel all large gatherings means our annual awards breakfast won't happen in 2020. This is our only major fundraising event each year and it's a loss of more than $375,000.
  • Loss of $23,000 a month from build groups: Donations from build groups-about $23,000 a month-were cut off when the Mayor of Boston declared a stoppage of all construction in the city. This forced our build sites to shut down indefinitely.
  • Loss of thousands in mortgage payments: Many of our homeowners are being hit hard by the economic collapse and some will struggle to pay their mortgages. While payments are always interest-free, this income is crucial to our budget.
Any one of these losses would be a challenge to overcome.

Together, they are crippling.

This is why I hope you will make an emergency donation now.

Your gift helps parents like Mekdes and Abebaw and their two boys...

They live in the South End, crammed in a one-bedroom apartment. There is nowhere to play outside. And the neighbors complain if the boys make too much noise inside.

This family of four was already in an untenable situation. The coronavirus has made things even harder.

Mekdes and Abebaw thought their prayers had been answered when they were selected for a Habitat home last year. But now, their dream hangs in the balance.

Your gift today will determine the life they live tomorrow.

This family of four is one of so many depending on your support right now.

No one saw this global pandemic coming. And we didn't budget for the impact of such an unimaginable catastrophe.

Please help with an emergency gift today. And thank you for your kindness.

Be well and stay safe,

James Kostaras
President & CEO

P.S. The coronavirus has created a perfect storm of financial disasters... at a time when struggling families need us most. That's why I urge you to make an emergency gift right away... before the situation gets any more dire. Thank you in advance for your generous support at this critical time.

Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston received the highest rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest and most-utilized independent evaluator of charities!

Mother's Day Walk for Peace

5/5/2020

The Louis D Brown Peace Institute is transforming society's response to homicide! And King's Chapel is participating in that transformation!

How? Via the Mother's Day Walk for Peace on Sunday may 10 at 9:00! Members and friends of KC are donating via the King's Chapel Team page and registering at https://www.mothersdaywalk4peace.org/. Although we have already met our team goal, we have not met our goal as a community partner because LDBPI has not yet raised their goal of $400,000. Please join in supporting their work -which is our work too!- by donating and/or registering!

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, homicides are still happening. Families and communities continue to experience the tragic death of loved ones. As the LDB Peace Institute navigates these times of uncertainty they are working remotely to serve families impacted by murder, trauma, grief, and loss with dignity and compassion. Watch this video featuring survivor Carla Sheffield to learn about how LDBPI services support survivors of homicide.

Check out the latest info about the Peace Walk, including an interview with KC's very own Carol Genovese!

Finally, here is a reflection from long-time supporter of the Peace Institute, Jim Power (and designer of the signs we have used in previous years):

This year, our always-anticipated, annual walk on Mother’s Day with the Peace Institute will be unlike previous years when King’s Chapel team members and supporters gathered early at the starting line at Fields Corner in Dorchester, Mass. and took long, prayerful steps to the finish line, all the while proclaiming that “King’s Chapel Walks in Peace.”

In step with the times, the 2020 Walk is going virtual. Consider the advantages: in a “virtual” walk on a digital screen we can stride next to friends and family gathered from all over the world, and walk step-by-step, hand-in-hand with them through the streets of Boston. We can do so without ever leaving the safety and the protection of the places in which we now are hunkering down. In a virtual walk we can go as far as we can dream, at the speed we wish to travel, without the need for hiking shoes, a band aid, or a bottle of water.

The Peace Institute only asks that we walk with them, and support their untiring efforts to offer healing to so many of our neighbors victimized by violence.

We’re committed to the 2020 Walk as “Peace Seekers,” and have raised our team’s pledge to $10,000. Please join with us on Mother’s Day as we “walk this way to healing” with the LDBPI. Make your donation HERE and join us and the Peace Institute online on Sunday, May 10, at 9:00 am for one of the most important walks of your life.
