Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809-1894), a member of King's Chapel for most of his life, is best known as the author of the poem "Old Ironsides" or perhaps as the titular "Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table." Despite the physician-turned-poet being one of the most popular figures in American literature in his day, a substantial number of his poems share his personal associations with friends like James Russell Lowell and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
