The King’s Chapel History Program seeks two Visitor Experience Associates to join our enthusiastic interpretation team. This new role serves as the public face of King’s Chapel, welcoming and engaging visitors and tour groups to the historic building along Boston's Freedom Trail. Visitor Experience Associates are responsible for staffing the admissions desk, performing sales in the gift shop, and communicating policies to visitors. You will work alongside our site Educators to share the stories of King's Chapel. Our interpretation spans over 300 years of history, with an emphasis on themes of faith, freedom, tolerance, and justice.
Key Responsibilities:
Welcome and greet visitors and groups to our historic church. As the first point of contact, you will set the tone for the visitor experience. We aim to foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all visitors.
Inform visitors of the different offerings available at King’s Chapel. We have a robust schedule of daily offerings which you need to confidently communicate with visitors.
Handle the sales of merchandise and admission tickets. King’s Chapel is an admission based site with a small gift shop. You will be responsible for handling ticket and merchandise sales via cash and credit card.
In addition to engaging the public, Visitor Experience Associates are responsible for handling end-of-day procedures, and assisting with the opening and closing of the building. The entire interpretation team works together to take the appropriate steps to ensure the safety and security of all people and objects within the church.
Schedule: Schedule includes weekdays and weekends. Seeking staff available to work 2 days a week, as well as subs with flexibility to cover occasional shifts. Flexible schedule required with availability during holidays, school vacation weeks, evenings and weekends.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a seasonal position (April through October 31) with the possibility of extension through the off-season. Please note that there are limited shifts available during the winter months.
Desirable Skills:
Friendly, positive attitude and a passion for working with the public
Strong public speaking and customer service skills
Demonstrated interest in history, public history, education, and/or the museum field
Experience with cash handling, retail, and POS systems
Sense of humor and ability to go with the flow
Ability to work on a fast-paced team in a high-energy environment
Conversational skills in a second language a plus
CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications are a plus
Applicants must be able to stand comfortably for extended periods of time, lift 30 pounds, and work within fluctuating temperatures. Please note that King’s Chapel is not air conditioned.
