Why give to King’s Chapel? To answer this question requires an understanding for oneself of what “King’s Chapel” is. My answer is that King’s Chapel is most notably a collection of relationships with other members and with the ministers, primarily in small group settings. King’s Chapel has provided me with opportunities to get to know and to work with a set of remarkable people who approach life with a seriousness of purpose but also with a sense of humor and joy. We aren’t afraid to discuss the big questions. We have formal services, yes, but we have had meditation groups and we also discuss poetry and non-doctrinaire ideas. We bask in musical excellence as a part of Sunday service but also in small cabaret-like settings at the Parish House. We are grounded in our ancestry and history, but we are able to face the truth about our history, whether pleasant or not. We are dedicated to bettering the lot of other beings on this earth. In my own case, the Environmental Action Initiative at King’s Chapel has been the primary channel through which I can engage to serve a far more important purpose than my own self.
Relationships are reciprocal. If someone or something cares for you, you must care for them. It’s that simple. That is why I give to King’s Chapel. |
